Petra Herotova

Petra Herotová (1980) born in Ostrava, Czech Republic engages predominantly with simple drawing, through which she forms visual records, comments, schemes and utopian visions. She understands drawing as a fully-fledged media and incorporates it into most of her installations that also include objects and videos. Herotová engages also with performance; she understands this media as a specific way how to demonstrate / present / expose a method or process in front of the spectator. The subjects in her work are derived from her own experience or from impulses present in her surrounding, and transformed into broader statements.

The focal point of the exhibition is the process of perceiving the local through the prism of the „other“. Based on subjective impressions and points of view, the project aims to comprehend and analyze the indigenous, in order to scrutinize and elaborate on its subjects. Although individual works seem to revolve predominantly around issues of the social, their meaning functions on multiple conceptual levels and thus avoids the notion of presenting a reductive view up on reality.
